This painting was made on the basis of the artist Konishi Mana’s visits to Mount Kinka in Gifu Prefecture. Previously, she had created two works titled Kinkazan, which in 2016 had won her the Vision of Contemporary Art (VOCA) award, a gateway to success for young artists. Kinkazan 3 is a follow-up work. Two people stand in a square frame surrounded by green trees. This kind of composition is a favorite of Konishi’s, and the technique used here is also typical of her work. While using digital photographs taken during her visit as an underlay, she has also employed a strongly textured expression with her oil paints to depict the lush green forest. By drawing out the sense of reality in both photography and painting, she has achieved a unique finish.
