The photos on the left and right were taken of the same person 30 years apart. The text on the left was written when the subject was a child, and it describes their experience of the atomic bomb. The text on the right is what they told photographer Tsuchida Hiromi in 2005. Tsuchida had read the book Children of the A Bomb (Osada Arata, ed., 1951), a collection of children's experiences of the atomic bombing, and decided to interview victims in the 1970s, 30 years after the war. However, coinciding as it was with an era of discrimination against A-bomb survivors, many people refused to be photographed. And yet, in 2005, after 30 more years had passed, some had changed their minds. The work demonstrates how even people who have shared a common experience will always have different reactions, and those reactions will inevitably evolve over time.
