The atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, is said to have destroyed or incinerated almost everything within about two kilometers of the hypocenter. Here you can see bridges and buildings that barely remain intact, as well as some surviving trees. Starting from the photo at the left, these pictures were taken at almost the same location in the 1970s, 1990s, and in 2010, at intervals of about 20 years. Tsuchida Hiromi, who began working as a photographer in the 1970s, has spent his career documenting rapidly evolving urban landscapes and the deeply-rooted customs of particular regions. The damaged buildings and trees depicted in these photos do not stay still. Some buildings are lost over time, while some of the trees grow larger. Tsuchida has recorded the GPS coordinates of the photos so that others can continue the series into the future.
