The form, made from thin wavy glass, is like the sea. It reminds one of the rolling surface of the water in the light, and also sea creatures. Perhaps the colors are the blue of water, the green of seaweed, and the red of coral. Bright colors like these are a feature of Dale Chihuly’s work. After studying interior design and glass production in the United States, he moved to Venice to work at a glass factory. The team-based method of glass-making he experienced there greatly influenced his subsequent work. After returning to the United States, he developed several series with traditional glass-blowing techniques that also involved using gravity and centrifugal forces to create organic shapes. He also created many indoor and outdoor installations in architectural spaces, demonstrating to the world the creative potential of glass-based expression.
