The English words "Drink More" are superimposed over the stars and stripes of the United States flag. A hand holding a Coca-Cola bottle thrusts upwards, as though breaking through the flag. At the dawn of mass consumerism, this work reacted to the American culture that was flooding into Japan at the time. Shortly after making this work, Shinohara Ushio published an article titled "The Attempt at Imitation Painting," in which he urged readers to make reproductions of this work. "What would happen if a dozen works identical to those that rich and powerful collectors chase crazily suddenly appeared all over the world? Just thinking about it brings me joy," he wrote, suggesting a critique of the notion of originality in art.
