The cup contains what appears to be beer. And, for some reason, it has fur on its handle. Come to think of it, it does resemble a squirrel holding its big tail up high! Meret Oppenheim was a female artist who participated in the Surrealism movement in Europe in the 1930s. The movement sought to explore the dreams and unconscious worlds that lie beyond everyday life. The work gives us a glimpse into an alternate reality by combining things that would never otherwise meet, and thereby creating something completely new from something utterly familiar.
