This is one of the works Ishida Takashi created for a solo exhibition held at the Yokohama Museum of Art. Its title became the title of the exhibition. The completed video is less than three minutes long, but it was made through a lengthy process of applying color to a square glass plate, photographing it with a fixed camera, then rotating the plate slightly, adding more color (or removing some), photographing it again, and then repeating the same process many thousands of times. The colors and shapes that are revealed as light is shone from behind the glass plate form an ever-changing image.
The method of exhibition changes, too. At the Yokohama Museum of Art, the work was projected onto a square screen that was suspended from the ceiling and was viewable from both sides. Meanwhile, in a different exhibition the images were projected on the floor so the viewers could walk on top of and become immersed in them.
