This video shows an interview conducted by Momose Aya with the historian Kinoshita Tomotake, who since birth has been medically unable to hear. In this work, Kinoshita is seen reading Momose’s lips in order to understand her. In fact, the pair was using a script based on a real conversation they had had previously, and Kinoshita was told of the structure of the work in advance. However, Momose did not inform him of the timing of certain changes that would occur along the way. To decipher this somewhat awkward interview, pay attention to the dialogue, the sound of the words, and the subtitles. Momose later said, “I could never have fully controlled this work as the artist.” When you watch the film to the end, whose voice is it that you hear?
