A bamboo forest bathed in the summer sunshine. Bamboo foliage fills the picture, and gold, silver, and platinum leaf has been cut into small pieces and pasted on to fill in the gaps. For the bamboo leaves that are in shade, the traditional tarashikomi technique of bleeding the ink is used. This work is comprised of two folding screens that are placed side by side. Depending on how acutely the screens are folded and the position of the viewer, the overlap and depth in the picture varies, making it seem alive and constantly changing. In this way the folding screen format has been used effectively to capture the vitality of the bamboo grove and the glistening light playing between its leaves.
