Rounded stones huddle together like a family, surrounding a transparent crystal in the center. The rough surface of the stones, the rounded contours, and the sparkle of the angular crystal—all are magical gifts from nature formed over millennia. “Rocks and minerals can be seen as the clock that dates the earth itself,” says Curtis Brock, who appears to compare the process of using natural materials to make glass with these mysterious natural processes.
Brock was born in New Mexico. He is a glass artist who still teaches at the School of Art, Craft & Design at Tennessee Tech University. Crystal explores the relationship between the insatiable human desire for scientific and technological advancement with the kind of natural marvels that lie beyond our control.
