While this painting is based on an actual airport, each of the buildings has been depicted as a single geometric shape. Along with this kind of abstraction, the painting is made using the technique of pointillism (painting using dots). According to Kokuryo Tsunero, in the mid-1950s while he was in his thirties, he sensed the limits of his own “dexterity,” and in order to resolve the problem deliberately began using the time-consuming technique of pointillism. Combining that technique with geometric abstraction, this painting was one of the earliest in this period. A sense of rhythm is created by dividing the water surface vertically into pointillist planes of varying brightness, and this use of lines in the surface of the water, and this use of lines came to play an even greater role in his later pointillist works.
