At "Monet’s Legacy," an exhibition held at the museum, Fukuda Miran exhibited two homages to the artist’s well-known Water Lilies series. This work was created as a companion to Water Lilies Pond, which she completed first.
The scenery visible in the restaurant window is different this time, with the night view replaced by dawn. As with the first work, the likening of the restaurant window to the surface of a pond, and the tables to water lilies, is reminiscent of Monet’s paintings. As the outside scene is brighter, the reflection on the glass is weakened, resulting in more of a blurring of the exterior and interior images. And by making them companion works, she has introduced the new element of how light and color change during the day, which was the focus of Monet’s interest throughout his Water Lilies series.
